Small only in name, Scotland's The Wee DJ's have become a towering presence in the world of electro - with releases such as 'Fear And Lothian', 'Get Wee Soon' and 'Wee Killed Him' all brusque testaments to the power of silicon. Yet for this exclusive MP3 only release, The Wee DJs have taken a step back from the dance floor and looked instead to explore the more considered intricacies of their circuit boards for 'Dysthymia' and in doing so draw parallels with titans such as (whisper it...) Autechre. Opening with 'Ruce', a dissident electronic scrubland slowly burns clear to reveal a lumpy beat that skitters around the composition with alarming alacrity and nimble dexterity. Evoking an overcast vision that is widescreen and full of grand gestures without resorting to cheap tricks and pomp, 'Dysthymia' certainly has its eye firmly on the macro end of the genre - bringing an up close perspective that is a joy to behold. Moving on, 'Prepr' teases you with a fragile introduction that is consumed by an acerbic breakdown just as you drop the defenses, 'Comedy' rips a chapter from the Braindance manual and makes it his own, whilst 'Cam' is the the end of the world fed through a motherboard. Closing on the lush atmospherics of 'Cn't Think 17', the Wee DJs have brought a fantastically filigree touch to their previously chrome world. Oor Wullie!
